What to Expect and What to Bring to Your Notary Appointment

It all begins with an idea.

When it comes to notarizing important documents, preparation makes all the difference. Whether you’re closing on a home, signing a power of attorney, or handling other official paperwork, understanding what to expect (and what to bring) ensures a smooth, stress-free experience.

At Crimson and Gold Notary, we’re committed to making the process simple, professional, and efficient – no matter where you are in Las Vegas. Here’s a quick guide to help you get ready for your appointment.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

1.      A Quick and Professional Process

Notarizations typically take 10 – 15 minutes, depending on the type of document and the number of signatures required. Your notary will greet you, review your documents, and verify your identity before witnessing your signature.

If you’ve booked a mobile appointment, your notary will meet you at your preferred location – your home, office, or another public place that’s convenient and safe.

2.      Identity Verification

Nevada law requires notaries to verify the identity of every signer. Before any document is notarized, your notary will review your valid identification to ensure everything matches.

Your ID must be current and include:

  • A clear photo of you

  • Your signature

  • Issued by a government agency

Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Nevada (or any U.S. state) driver’s license or ID card

  • U.S. Passport

  • Military ID

  • Permanent Resident Card

If you don’t have a valid ID, you may be able to use credible witnesses (ask us in advance to see if this applies to your situation).

3.      Document Review (Without Legal Advice)

Your notary will review the document only to ensure:

  • It’s complete (no blank spaces)

  • The singer is present and willing to sign the document

  • The document includes a notarial certificate (acknowledgement, jurat, etc.)

It’s important to note that notaries cannot provide legal advice or explain the contents of your document. If you have legal questions, consult an attorney before your appointment.

4.      Signing and Stamping

Once your ID is verified and the document is reviewed, you’ll sign in front of the notary. The notary will then complete and affix their official stamp and signature making your document legally notarized.

You’ll also be asked to sign the notary’s official log book, which serves as a record of the transaction.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

To make sure your appointment goes smoothly, have these items ready:

  1. Valid, unexpired photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.)

  2. Your complete document (filled out but not yet signed)

  3. Payment (check, cash, card, or digital payment)

  4. Any witnesses required (for certain documents – confirm beforehand)

  5. Any special instructions (from your title company, lender, or attorney)

If you’re meeting at home or in a public location, make sure you have a quiet, flat surface to sign your documents.

Pro Tip: Double-Check Beforehand

Before your notary arrives:

  • Review your document for missing pages or blank fields.

  • Ensure all parties signing are present.

  • Have your ID handy and ready to show.

This saves time and ensures the notarization is valid the first time.
